Third-Graders Create Crafts to Support Canine Organizations

Country School third graders have been supporting a variety of canine organizations this school year. During I-Time (Lower School time devoted to multi-disciplinary projects) the entire grade worked together to stock a Canine Crafts fundraising table at the Frogtown Fair. To see the grade in action, please watch the student designed public service announcement video.

Items will be available for sale this Saturday, May 16, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Frogtown Fair. Canine themed items for sale include squeaky bones, fleece toys, pumpkin pup cookies, and student drawn dog note cards, and proceeds benefit Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Therapy Dogs International, Silver Shields and the AKC 911 Canine Fund.

“Doing this to raise money and to help dogs is kind and generous. Since I love dogs, I think it is a good thing," said Ned, a third-grader.

In addition to helping local dogs, the Canine Craft project also allows students to practice life and business skills, such as calculating the total amount due, making change, explaining how items were made, sharing the purpose of the project, managing product placement, weighing and converting price per pound, keeping a written record of sales, managing any layaway items, bagging purchased merchandise and developing their people skills.
