This is an optional after-school program that alternates twice a week with your child’s Kindergarten whole days. Kindergarten Extended Day will begin on Thursday, September 16. The hours are 12:15 to 3:00 p.m. At that time your child may take the bus home or be picked up. Many parents choose Extended Day for additional social time as an alternative to picking up their child at 12:15 p.m. twice a week. As you know, your child will be required to spend two whole days (8:15 a.m. – 2:50 p.m.) in his or her classroom. The dates for this will be assigned during the first week of school.

Your child will bring lunch to the Extended Day room at 12:15 p.m. Children are encouraged to participate in a quiet activity after lunch. These activities include Lego building, nature projects, dramatic play, coloring, painting, card, and board games. We then have a rest time while listening to music or story tapes. After resting, depending on the weather, we will either go outside to the playground or to the Gross Motor Room. Children then have a snack and get ready for buses or pick up.

This is an optional after-school program held in the Thacher Building from 2:50 to 4:15 p.m. for students in Beginners through Grade 4. Late Extended Day will begin on Friday, September 10, and is held every day except Wednesday. There is no Late Extended Day on Friday half days; your school calendar will help you plan ahead for childcare on those days.

Parents choose to have their child in the Late Extended Day Program for many reasons, which may include coverage for work or class schedules, or a longer social playtime for their child. We create a close neighborhood-like community with emphasis on creative, imaginative social play along with playground time, sports, board games, and crafts. Snacks are offered when the children arrive.

This program has been designed to provide childcare services and additional social play time. Your child will need to bring lunch to the Extended Day Room at 12:30 p.m. Children will have lunch (rest time for Beginners and Kindergarteners), stories, projects, and outdoor play. A quiet space for homework will be available for the older children. Wednesday Extended Day starts on September 16. Bus service is not available on Wednesday after Extended Day.

Registration and enrollment are on a yearly basis. Please register on-line by clicking on this Extended Day On-line Registration link. The tuition breakdown is posted on the left side of this page. You will be billed by the Accounting Office for the full year in October. Families who are applying for financial aid should notify John Ziac of their interest in Extended Day.

It is very important that you indicate on your registration form whether or not your child will be taking the bus. In the fall, we will implement a new bus note system. Instructions on the system will be distributed at the end of the summer. Remember there are no Wednesday afternoon buses.
