 | Welcome to the New Canaan Country School Web site. Whether you are a current or prospective family, alumnus or alumna, past parent, or prospective colleague, we appreciate your interest in our school and invite you to explore this site. I believe that you will find the information and images here to be engaging and revealing of who we are and what we believe about children and education.
At Country School, 614 students from Fairfield and Westchester counties learn and play together on a remarkable 75-acre campus. A deep belief in tradition and fundamental skills anchors us to the past. A keen interest in innovation and continuous improvement keeps us focused on the future. A commitment to leadership in faculty compensation and training supports the very best teachers, advisors, and coaches. A financial-aid budget of more than $3 million makes Country School available to families from different economic backgrounds. Our own regional bus system enables us to provide transportation to students from neighboring towns to ensure racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity. The result is a dynamic school climate in which elementary- and middle-school children thrive. As our most recent accreditation report remarked, “The people who inhabit the campus, both young and old, are busy and productive, yet relaxed and happy…The culture at Country School is unusually open and engaging.”
Henry Welles, former headmaster, wrote that “Children respect a school when standards are maintained firmly but with humor and understanding of the individual. Children love a school when they know their teachers believe in them, care about their development, and have a creative touch in leading them along the way.” At Country School, we believe that the best education not only prepares children for success at the next level of schooling; it teaches them to ask questions, to take risks, to respect others, to be resilient, and always to be curious about the world.
On this Web site you will find a wide range of helpful information regarding our curriculum, faculty, campus, news and events, current priorities, and future plans. You also can connect with former classmates, apply for admission or for employment, and support the school with financial gifts. We are glad to welcome you to our Web site; we hope to welcome you to our campus.
Sincerely,
Tim Bazemore Head of School
