Dear Early Childhood Families,
Welcome! We hope you find the joy of reading to your child to be as exciting as we do. Reading aloud helps children develop rich vocabulary, exposes them to new information and offers wonderful moments for conversation and connection.
Exposing children to the rhythm and rhyme of language helps to support children’s emergent reading skills. Over the summer, we invite you to read to your child a collection of Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes.
Additionally, we ask that all children entering Kindergarten are read aloud the following four books:
Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller
The Curious Garden by Peter Brown
In My Heart by Jo Witek
Down the Road by Alice Schertle
During the summer months and throughout the school year, we encourage you to visit your local library and check out a few books by the Beginners Teachers’ favorite authors. As you browse the stacks, we are sure you will find additional authors and illustrators to add to this list.
