Information for Families of New Students

A very warm welcome to you as parents of our new students! We hope that the information provided below will help you begin to prepare for your child's transition to Country School. In the coming weeks and months, we will update this page as additional information becomes available and eventually you will migrate to the Back-to-School resource page available to all 2021-22 Country School families. If you have any questions, please contact the Admission Office, or (203) 801-5608.

For your information and in case you wish to have it for your records, please note that to access your completed 2021-22 enrollment contract at any time, you may return to the Community Login section of the website and click the small arrow to the right of your name in the upper right corner to display a dropdown menu; then choose Files & Forms and click Show completed forms. If you need any assistance with this process please let us know.

NEW - Connecting with Division Heads

Parents who have not yet done so should arrange to meet with your child’s Division Head as part of our “on-boarding” process. These parent-division head meetings, to take place by phone or Zoom, will allow for further introduction to your division head as well as of your child. Please use these links to select a time that works best for you:

For Beginners and Kindergarten: Early Childhood Head Beth O’Brien
For Grade 1 through 4: Lower School Head Meaghan Mallin
For Grades 5 and 6: Middle School Head Kirsten Rosolen
For Grades 7 through 9: Upper School Head Karl Palmgren

NEW - Host Family Program

Each new family (and current families with new students) is assigned to a Host Family with a child in your child's grade. You may expect to receive a call from your Host in the coming weeks. Think of your Host Family as a resource as you make your way toward the start of the school year.
If you have any questions about the Host Family Program, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Rand Niederhoffer, Host Family Chair, Beginners through Grade 2
Taryn Sonesson, Host Family Chair, Grades 3 through 9
Sonia O'Connor, Executive Council Liaison VP, Volunteers

NEW - Grades 6-9 Summer Math Work

Grades 6-9 math teachers have created an online math packet to help prepare students for their return to campus in September. These packets focus on a review of essential skills and concepts covered this year. Each child’s packet can be found on the Resource Board under “Rising Grades 6 - 9 School Math Packets,”  click here  (You will need to login to the NCCS website).

NEW - Grades 2-5 Optional Summer Math

If you would like to offer your child some familiarity with our math program, Bridges in Mathematics, please feel free to print the attached optional summer work that is appropriate for your child's grade level. This will offer a glimpse into our math program and many of the strategies your child will learn in the fall and beyond.
Please note that this material might feel new to students who are not familiar with our math program and is not meant to create any worry for you or your child. When your child arrives in the fall, they will be familiarized with the Bridges program more formally in their classes.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Math Learning Specialist Kirsten Giacolone,

Community Transportation Program

In the spirit of ensuring access to our school to those just beyond our neighborhood, as a way to build community among our students, as a commitment to doing our part in support of a sustainable planet and because less traffic on campus means a safer campus, Country School requires all eligible families to participate in our Community Transportation program. (Please note that Beginners 3/4 are not eligible to ride the bus and for Beginners 4/5 and Kindergarteners participation is optional, not required.)
Bus routes will be developed beginning late June/July, once we have a full understanding of our families' locales as well as who among our Kindergarten and Beginners 4/5 families also wish to ride the bus. If your child is entering Grades 1-9 you will soon be prompted to complete a transportation survey when you log into the NCCS Community Portal. If your child is entering Beginners 4/5 or Kindergarten, someone from the transportation team will reach out to you directly.

A list of bus routes for the 2021-2022 school year will be published in late July. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact either John Neill (203) 801-5667 or Jodi Hasbrouck (203) 801-5611 on our Transportation Team.
