Community Gathers for Flag Raising

New Canaan Country School students, faculty and staff gathered together around the flagpole Sept. 9 to officially celebrate the start of the school year.

As is tradition, a student from each of our divisions (aside from Early Childhood) raised the flag along with Head of School Rob Macrae. This year’s students were: Logan Mackey, Grade 3, Audrey Ives, Grade 6 and Alex Byrne, Grade 9.

Dr. Macrae addressed the gathering, “It is truly a privilege to be a member of the Country School community.  So, today before we embark on this school year, I would like to take a moment to pause, reflect and to collectively be grateful for the blessings of an excellent education.”

He also welcomed 103 new students to campus from 10 surrounding communities. He noted that a few have moved to the area from as far as Texas, Florida and Norway. He also welcomed new faculty, staff and apprentice teachers and paid tribute to 26 faculty and staff members who have been at Country School for 20 or more years. See below for a complete list.

The assembly concluded with a community sing-along of “This Land is your Land” and “Turning of the World.”
