Country School Girls’ Varsity Hockey Wins Two

Girls’ Varsity Hockey had a strong start to their season with two decisive wins; a 4-2 victory over Upland Country Day School and an 8-3 win against Choate.
Coaches Scott Lilley, Holly Casella ’04 and Lindsay Regan are excited about the upcoming season. “We have a deep bench of 18 players this year and it’s been a fun group to coach,” said Head Coach Lilley.  “They’re excited to get out there to play and they’re putting in the hard work to improve on the ice.”

The team is anchored by ninth grade captains Nina Stoops of Darien and Lucy Jones of Norwalk, whose fathers, interestingly, were also NCCS athletes. Nina, who plays defense, came out strong in the upland game, delivering a hat-trick of goals to get things started during the season opener.

The Choate team also had an alumni element to it. “It was great to welcome back two former students, Taylor Mitchell ’17 and Haley Strom ’17, to see that they’re still enjoying hockey, and to catch up with them about their fall courses,” said Coach Lilley.

The Cougars next play Greenwich Country Day School at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at home.
