Country School Lights the Night

Members of the Country School community raised red, yellow and white lanterns at the annual Light the Night Walk on Oct. 28. More than 60 students, faculty, staff and alumni attended the event and raised $5,300 (surpassing their goal of $5,000!) for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
For the fourth year, Country School participated in the walk which honors blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases, and helped to shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients. By walking, participants also honored the legacy of Kyle Markes. Kyle attended NCCS and waged a heroic battle against the disease; he passed away during his 6th grade year.

“The Walk helped students understand that by showing up and putting our energy behind a cause, we can effectuate change,” said Upper School teacher and co-Director of Service Learning Will McDonough. “We are a school that cares deeply about our students and our families; and we are a school that cares about the broader community.”
