Richard “Richie” Thompson, Maintenance Assistant, 1980-2006

Richard Douglas Thompson, 79, a longtime resident of Stamford passed away in Homosassa, FL on Monday, July 2, 2018. He was born in Stamford on July 23, 1938 to the late John and Katherine Thompson of Pound Ridge, NY.

Richard retired from New Canaan Country Day School in New Canaan, CT, where he was employed as Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance. Richard was well versed in carpentry and used his creative mind, hands and meticulous nature to craft and build. Richard will be remembered as a man of honor and humor, craftmanship, and more notably a loving and dedicated husband and devoted father.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Joan Marie Thompson, his two daughters, Janet Ferris Chobanian and Jamie Lee Navarro (Wiskers); sisters, Carol Florre, Katherine Woodstead and her husband Kenneth, Donna Hall and her husband Charles; brother, Robert Thompson and his wife Patricia; sisters in law, Jeanne Brown, Jocelyn McFarland, Susan Browning and her husband John and brother in law, Billy McFarland. In addition, Richard is also survived by six grandchildren, Jessica Racaniello, Matthew Navarro, Stanley Ferris, Leann Ferris, Laura Ferris and Madison Navarro, four great grandchildren, Adriana Trujillo, Aniya Watson, Lilah Racaniello and Kaleb Pascale, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Long Ridge Union Cemetery, Erskine Road, Stamford.
