Author Janet Wong Shares Love of Poetry at Country School

On Friday, April 26, author and poet Janet Wong visited Country School, presenting to all students in Grades 1 through 6. Ms. Wong is best known for her books Pet Crazy: a Poetry Friday Anthology, The Dumpster Diver, Alex and the Wednesday Chess Club.
During the assemblies, she shared with the students how she decided to stop practicing law and become a children’s author and poet instead. She arrived with a suitcase filled with a variety of items which children selected, and from these choices she shared poems. A few fourth graders also had the pleasure of eating lunch with Ms. Wong where they all discussed their favorite books and authors. Ms. Wong challenged Lower School students to write poetry, with the chance to win a book of poems. Many inspired poets have already submitted their work and five lucky winners will be announced at the Lower School assembly on May 6.
