7th Grade Takes Virtual Field Trip to the Vernal Pond

Upper School Science Teacher Sanj Maliakal took his seventh grade life sciences classes on a virtual field trip with the assistance of Zoom and an underwater GoPro camera to the vernal pond located in the school’s 35-acres of campus woodlands. Throughout the year, they had studied ecology and environmental science; this field trip allowed students to explore the unique habitat of a vernal pond and how it compares to other ecosystems and food webs they have already studied. Mr. Maliakal collected tadpole specimens, sharing his finds in real-time with his students, answering questions and even naming the birds they could hear calling in the woods around him. View video.
