NCCS Holds Closing Exercises

At New Canaan Country School’s Closing Exercises Wednesday, June 16, Head of School Aaron Cooper encouraged the 35 members of the Class of 2021 to draw upon the many strengths they developed during their tenure at the Pre-K through Grade 9 school. The graduates, their families, faculty and staff gathered on the front lawn of the school’s campus for the outdoor ceremony.
“In addition to all that you learned in your classes and activities, I hope you take the resilience and flexibility and patience and focus that you showed and developed this year and make the most of it. In the words of our mission, we expect that you will go on to lead lives of impact and purpose. So go make a difference in something that drives you. It will not be easy, and you will have moments of doubt but your teachers and your families and I know you can do it.”

Ninth Grader Ben Bilden of New Canaan delivered the Class Salutation in which he welcomed those in attendance and acknowledged the school’s faculty and staff and sense of community as integral to the class’ success, particularly during the past year of the pandemic. "It’s the people here today that have made our NCCS journeys so amazing and possible, and they deserve to be recognized.”

“First and foremost, to the teachers and all of the NCCS staff. Thank you. You are the heart and soul of this amazing school, and our experiences would have never been the same without you. You helped us learn, but also grow into better people during our time here. Whenever I am asked about New Canaan Country School, the first thing that comes to my mind is community. This is a community where we are encouraged to take risks, where we are supported and feel comfortable speaking up for ourselves. This sense of community we have here is because of you, our teachers. When we are having a bad day, you are there for us. When we don’t understand a topic, you come in early or stay late to help us."

Annie Nichols of New Canaan presented the Class Reflection. “There is no single word to describe our class’ experience at New Canaan Country School. Some of this is based on individuality and that no two experiences will be the same, another part is based on how we have been shaped and how we have grown at Country School. We have grown to be resilient, to be poised, to be good sports in times of challenging losses, and to be compassionate. This is not just to simply make us good people, but for us to use our potential to benefit ourselves and others.”
