NCCS Faculty & Staff Embark on a Journey of Wellness

According to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, “well-being includes people's physical, mental, and social health, and the opportunities they have to create meaningful futures.” Whether on-site blood-pressure check-ups, free chair massages, financial advisors, or social outings such as bowling, baseball games, museum visits or surprise Grammy-winning concerts, Country School has a long-standing history of supporting the health and well-being of our faculty and staff. This past fall, we rededicated our efforts by launching several new programs to cultivate employee wellness, especially given the nature of this extraordinary time. This initiative was spearheaded by long-time faculty member and Director of PLUS Program Kathy Kravec. View photo gallery.
“It is very important for us to focus on the wellbeing of the adults in our community in addition to the wellbeing of our students, as healthy adults create better experiences for our children. The Wellness Works program is one of the innovative programs the team at NCCS has developed to support our faculty and staff,” said Head of School Aaron Cooper.

Coined Wellness Works, faculty and staff were invited to engage in holistic wellness in areas of social, physical, personal, and service activities. There were many small group workshops from which to choose, including painting, sculpture, yoga, mindfulness, fitness and strength training, rowing, basketball, tennis, squash, drumming, book discussions, cooking and community outreach projects. In December, all employees were invited to participate in a 14-day Wellness Challenge. Each morning a thoughtful prompt was posted for consideration along with the opportunity to share reflections on a community message board. Participants were entered into a raffle to win “wellness” prizes. And yet, the best prize was the collective energy and support shared amongst colleagues.

School Psychologists Jackie Britt-Friedman and Rebecca Comizio continue to lead monthly lunch discussions on timely topics such as “Work/Life Balance” and “Cultivating Positive Relationships.” Two Wellness Wednesdays for all employees are also on this year’s calendar.
