Ninth Graders Beat Faculty, Staff & Apprentices by One Point in Annual Basketball Game

A long-standing Country School tradition, the ninth-grade competed against the school’s faculty, staff and apprentice teachers in a basketball game held, Feb. 28. The Class of 2022 eked out a one-point win, besting the adults 36-35.
The Athletic & Wellness Center’s George Gym was brimming with school spirit for the annual contest. Members of the school community cheered from the sidelines, most notably the eighth-graders who attempted to organize a stadium-style wave, led chants and sang and danced to the hype music played between points.

The Faculty-Staff team presented an official-looking front, wearing varsity uniforms of blue and white while the soon-to-be graduates wore rebel black, several sporting face paint embellishments as well.

“The ninth grade games are wonderful traditions and always so spirited. The friendly banter and on-court antics always bring a lot of laughter and the memories made by the ninth graders are so special,” said Director of Athletics Ms. Keri Kern who together with Assistant Director Stefan Borowski, facilitated the event.

The match was the second in a series of three athletic challenges between the two teams; in the fall they competed in soccer and in the spring they will meet again for softball, followed by a celebratory cook-out.
