NCCS Early Childhood Educator Shares Parenting Strategies at New Canaan CARES Event
New Canaan Country School Head of Early Childhood Beth O’Brien shared strategies, tips and practical wisdom in her presentation based on the book How To Talk So Little Kids Will Listen at a parent education event sponsored by the non-profit organization, New Canaan CARES, held on the school’s campus on March 3.
Modeled after the book authored by Joanna Faber and Julie King, Ms. O’Brien grounded her remarks in an explanation of why children at this stage of development behave the way they do and how adults can best interpret the cues they provide. She then shared a variety of common scenarios — such as the need to transition a child from one place or activity to another — followed by a range of practical approaches and solutions.

Ms. O’Brien, a frequent speaker on topics of education, will next be speaking on April 6 at the Virtual Early Childhood Close-Up providing parents with a an overview of what students ages 3-5 need as well as a close look at how the academic, arts and athletic programs at New Canaan Country School are deliberately designed to meet the needs of children just beginning their educational journey.
