Oh, What A Night! Parents’ Association Hosts Amazing Outdoor Party

NCCS parents, faculty and staff gathered for an evening of adult good cheer, food trucks and fun in the Grace House Circle, April 30. Campfires blazed while friends old and new celebrated the arrival of spring at “Back in Bloom,” a community party hosted by the school’s Parents’ Association.
“It’s so great to be back together!” said Head of School Aaron Cooper to enthusiastic applause. Mr. Cooper recognized event co-chairs Ryan Brooks and Polly Goodyear for the amazing evening filled with many of his favorite things: food trucks, friends and fun. He also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the school’s stellar PA Executive Council: Gwen Golden, Jen Kline, Shannon Kieske, Carina Calia, Ashley Williams, Sonya Mital, Hilary Flanagan and Sonia O’Connor.

A special shout-out also went to school parent Fell Herdeg whose band, Doghouse, was the perfect choice for the evening’s backyard feel-good vibe. Covering a hit parade of party jams from a bygone era including The Eagles, Steely Dan and Neil Young, many in attendance were inclined to sing along while Ian (guitar), Noah (Keyboard), Fell (bass), Mark (guitar) and Denny (drums) rocked well into the evening. Charlie Bogus and Carlos Mendoza kept the campfires burning, adding welcome ambience and warmth as the sun set. Paper lantern-covered twinkly lights dangling from above gave the whole setting a magical, festive glow.

“What a fabulous night!“ said Polly Goodyear who offered thanks to the whole NCCS community as well as the village she and Ryan mobilized to make the evening come together so successfully. FLIK Independent School Dining Services passed hors devours and a small fleet of trucks and mobile trailers parked around the Grace House Circle fed everyone a generous supply of comfort food including tacos from Taco Tequileria Truck and spare rib sandwiches, hamburgers and fries from Fryborg. A hot dog cart was supplied by Chez Lenard while drinks were served out of the side of a picturesque vintage Airstream by Tipsea Trailer.

A raffle was held with prizes such as Movie and Popcorn (for your child’s class), Bring your Pet to School and Design the School Lunch Menu for a Day. After dinner, the band played an extended medley of Grateful Dead hits while guests either danced or lounged in conversation in Adirondack chairs around the campfires.
