Third-Graders Patch Together a Resilience Quilt

by the Third-Grade Team
During the Peopling of America study, the third grade learned how resilience plays a role in who we are as Americans.  They made a “Resilience Quilt” inspired by traditional quilt squares, used to guide slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad.
In the third-grade “Resilience Quilt,” traditional quilt squares line the perimeter. Each child also created a square for the middle of the quilt. The upper half of each square displays an example of resilience shown by Americans in history. The bottom half of each square displays an example of our own students’ resilience. The quilt is hanging at the north end of the Perrine Commons in the Welles Building.
