To the New Canaan Country School Community:
We are delighted to inform you that the Board of Trustees of New Canaan Country School has unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Robert Macrae, a distinguished educational leader, as our fifth Head of School, effective July 1, 2015.
This announcement is the culmination of a community-wide effort and many months of intensive effort by
the Search Committee, advised by our Parent and Faculty/Staff Advisory Committees. Through numerous community forums, and guided by our school’s mission, our consultants from Spencer Stuart outlined the key qualities and characteristics we desired in our next leader. We thank you for your collective wisdom and commitment to this important process.
Throughout the last several months, the Search Committee reviewed many candidate profiles, met with numerous candidates, and ultimately selected three finalists. Among a very impressive pool of candidates, Dr. Macrae stood out as the committee’s unanimous choice to recommend to the Board of Trustees. Dr. Macrae brings a unique combination of skills and characteristics to the school. He has extensive academic training and 26 years of independent school experience. He is an inclusive leader who is critically trained in on collaborative problemsolving, a compassionate listener and a man of strong moral character. He has been a teacher, coach and mentor. He is an athlete, outdoorsman and a world traveler, but above all he is a champion for children.
Dr. Macrae currently serves as Head of School for Cincinnati Country Day School, a preK–12 school. He previously held several senior administrative roles at The Pingry School in Martinsville, N.J. including Assistant Headmaster, Head of the Middle School and Head of the Upper School.
It is exciting to come together as a community to welcome Dr. Macrae as we approach New Canaan Country School’s centennial and look forward to the next chapter of our beloved school’s history.
Sincerely,
John M. Teitler,
