Cougars Storm Back but Fall Short against Patriots

Some games, win or lose, you never quite forget. Today was one of those games. In an edge-of-your-seat, back and forth overtime thriller, the Ridgefield Patriots did just enough today to hang on and revenge their week one loss to the NCCS JV Cougars.

The game was hotly contested from the get go, and shots were falling for both teams. Ridgefield clearly had revenge on their minds, and they were not afraid to score the basketball today. They attacked the basket early and often, scoring buckets in close, but also kicking to open shooters on the outside. To hang tough, the Cougars were going to have to score the ball. And score we did. Off numerous pick and roll lob feeds from point guard Lucan Glennan, Hudson "Eight Ball" Sonesson was a force down low, notching 13 points. In addition, the Cougars hit a couple three point shots, courtesy of Kai Gogkol-Kline and Griffin "Griff" Stallmeyer, and forward Charlie Smith played some excellent basketball today, scoring 6 points off the bench.

With a time game at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the win was up for grabs. Ridgefield dominated the first half of the quarter, building up a six point lead with ninety seconds to go. However, NCCS refused to quit. Led by some ferocious full court pressing defense, a well-assisted pass from Aidan Grant to Charlie Smith, and a wild floater from Lucan Glennan, NCCS was down just two points with 30 seconds. After one made free throw brought the Patriot lead up to three, NCCS charged down the court for the play of the game. The ball found its way to Palmer "Old Reliable" Bowen, who banked a three ball to tie the game. The crowd was going wild, but NCCS still needed one stop. After some lockdown defense from Dylan Reid, the game went to OT.

Unfortunately, the comeback died there. Ridgefield couldn't miss in overtime, and the Cougars ran out of luck and out of steam. 44-35 final, OT.

What a season this was! Thank you to all the parents, friends, and guardians for your support and attendance at our games. And to the boys... see you all next year at tryouts! (Also, see you at practice for some fun and games on Tuesday / Thursday of this week).
