NCCS Names Horizons Scholars

New Canaan Country School named Itzel Llamas and Riya Punjabi as this year’s Horizons Scholars. They will join Country School this fall as third and sixth graders, respectively and have been participants in the Horizons Program at New Canaan Country School for several years.
In naming Horizons-NCCS Scholars, the school looks for outstanding Horizons students who combine a strong commitment to academic work with an equally strong commitment to character skills.

“I’m really excited to attend Country School. It will be a great learning experience and will give me a boost in all my subjects,” said Riya, who lives in Stamford and attended Westover Middle School.

Horizons’ Executive Director Kerry Stevens announced the awards during a special event this summer in front of a large audience of Horizons students, faculty, parents, special guests and NCCS colleagues.  “Itzel and Riya both show tremendous passion and motivation for learning, and their strong work ethic and kindness to others will enrich our community.”

Head of School Dr. Robert P. Macrae also congratulated the girls and emphasized the school’s partnership with Horizons.  “Horizons and New Canaan Country School share so many of the same values of teamwork, creativity, curiosity and resilience,” he said. “Itzel and Riya embody those values, and we are delighted to welcome them to the Country School.”
