Seventh Graders Visit Nation's Capital

Country School seventh graders delved into American history and the process of lawmaking during their three-day trip to Washington D.C. last week. View photos.

Inside the Capitol Building, the students debated issues of immigration, the minimum wage and healthcare during a Mock Congress. They explored the links between the past, present and future of the United States by visiting the Jefferson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Jr. and Martin Luther King, Jr. memorials. They also visited the African American Museum, Smithsonian American History Museum and 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. After returning home, the students spent their first day back in school building on the skills they learned, collaborating and compromising on the creation of a mock bill involving immigration reform.
