Lower School Halloween Parade - a Beloved NCCS Tradition

The rain held off for our beloved Halloween Parade! Our Lower Schoolers were delighted when Parade Grand Marshals Head of Lower School Mrs. Mallin and Head of School Mr. Cooper appeared as Gerald and Piggie, the lead characters from the popular Mo Willems children’s book series, to lead the parade around campus. As usual, the Middle School Band and our beloved music teachers along with some other intrepid faculty led the way with Mr. Tyson on sousaphone, followed by a menagerie of drums, woodwinds and brass – and at least one banjo!

The ninth grade chose “the decades” as their class costume theme representing fashion from the past, and as usual, even our furry friends dressed up! Popular costumes included superheroes, athletes, community helpers and animals both real and magical.

When it was time to weigh the Giant Pumpkin on the scale made in the woodshop, it came in at 94.5 lbs or the equivalent of a box of worms, a box of rocks, a half dozen staplers, a big “slice” of log, a jar of honey and several other classroom items. Congratulations to Connor Mallin whose guess of 95 was closest.
