Cougars Battle FCDS in Close Contest

Clay Kontulis
The NCCS White Flag Football team battled hard against a strong Fairfield Country Day School team in rainy conditions this afternoon. With only six players active, the Cougars showed great determination and grit for the entire game. After going down 0-6 early, quarterback Paul Vartanian found wide receiver Miles Chandor who sprinted down the field for a touchdown. FCDS scored twice more, once before half and then in the third quarter, to put them up 18-6. The Cougars once again responded when safety Paul Vartanian scored a clutch pick 6 followed by a 2 point conversion reception by Miles Chandor to put NCCS within 4 with 5 minutes to go. Right when they needed it most, the NCCS defense came through with a critical stop. Charlie Baird forced the quarterback to throw an incomplete pass on 3rd down to get the ball back for the Cougars. Unfortunately, the offense was not able to convert and Fairfield Country Day School scored once more to ice the game. Other notable NCCS highlights included: an impressive run by Stephen McGovern, a skilled catch by Chase Bowen and shutdown cornerback play by Ben Cali.
