NCCS Presents at 2013 NAIS Annual Conference

Head of School Tim Bazemore was a co-presenter at the 2013 National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Annual Conference on March 1 where he participated in a panel discussion on “Mission Skills Assessment:  Assessing Character Traits in Middle School Students.

He shared the work he has done for the past several years as vice chair of the INDEX group which, in partnership with ETS, has created an assessment of six critical character skills: creativity, curiosity, time management teamwork, resilience and ethics.

Character education has been a hallmark of the Country School philosophy for nearly 100 years and is infused into the curriculum at every grade level. In January, NCCS became a founding member of the Mission Skills Teacher Network with the goal of sharing best practices with other regional INDEX schools to continue to enhance the school’s character education program.

In addition to Mr. Bazemore, the presenters included Lisa Pullman, INDEX (MA); Jeremy Burrus and Rich Roberts, Educational Testing Service (NJ); Dave Michelman, Duke School (NC); Ned Murray, Episcopal Day School (GA); Jennifer Phillips, Far Hills Country Day School (NJ)

More than 4,000 independent school leaders and colleagues attended the conference.
