Girls Win First Match at Middle School Nationals!

C. Badan
The Girls' Team won their first match against Bala Cynwyd (PA) with a score of 4-1. This is the first day of competition of the annual three day Middle School National Squash Championships which are taking place at Yale, with over 65 school teams and nearly 450 students competing.

NCCS is fielding both a boys' and girls' team - with 9th grade Captains Maia Zonis and Carson Teitler leading their teams. The seedings by US Squash has placed our boys in Division III and our girls in Division II. The rules of the tournament require "scoring" players to be enrolled in 5th - 8th grade and the format is as follows:
5  scoring matches, each one the best of five games (winning 3 out of 5).
In order for a team to win a contest they must win 3 out of 5 matches.

The order of play is always the same ladder number order of athletes, #5 and #2 play first, #4 and #3 play second and #1 and the first alternate play last. Most teams bring 6-7 players and although alternate matches are not "scored" they hold equal value in competition for the players and their teams.
The Girls battle against Baldwin (PA) this evening at 7:30 PM and our Boys' Team has their first match tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM.
Let's Go Cougars!!!
