Country School "Buddies" Up During Hour of Maker
Country School students participated in its first Hour of Maker. For the past two years, there was a similar event, Hour of Code, which focused on computer programming. However, this year the school decided to do a hands-on Maker project. Working with their buddies, every student built their own Car-Bot. "The goal of the engaging event was for students to design and develop a work plan using both new and familiar materials and tools, troubleshoot errors, collaborate with friends, and enjoy their final creations," said Director of Academic Technology Aron Back who organized the activity.
Students received a kit which included a battery-powered dual axle motor, battery holder and battery, a wheelset, a jumbo colored popsicle stick, double-sided tape, and colored masking tape as their building supplies. They watched this video tutorial for step-by-step instructions on how to build their cars.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Amicus Foundation, Country School dedicated a new MakerSpace which opened this fall and has allowed the school to significantly expand its Maker offerings. Learn more about the Amicus Foundation MakerSpace Design Lab.
