Cougars Bury the Bruins

The NCCS JV Cougars continued their winning ways today with a hard-fought victory against the Brunswick Bruins. NCCS got off to an early lead and they never let up, leading the game from wire to wire. Sammy Wagner got the scoring going early, but the second quarter unit, led by Jax Falkenstein, really opened up the gap between the two teams. It was truly a balanced effort, as seven different Cougars got on the scoreboard, including forward Chase Bowen, who sank his first bucket of the season. However, many other Cougars found ways to contribute to the team win. This was most evident on the glass, as the boys dominated the rebound count. Leading the way was Nathan "Rebounder" Roth, who tallied 18 rebounds, a new season high, in just three quarters of play.

Now for the X's and O's. The screen and roll worked early and often for the Cougars, helping to create space for our point guards to attack the hoop, shoot mid-range jumpers, and find open teammates on cuts. When Brunswick switched to a 2-3 zone, the Cougars were ready, and the boys let loose a barrage of deep shooting that kept the scoring train rolling. The Bruins tried to mount a bit of a comeback at the end, but the final unit, featuring some aggressive defense from Stephen McGovern and Jim Golden, made sure they didn't get too close. Cougars win, 36-19!

Looking ahead, we have no game next week, but we will be back in action on Tuesday the 23rd against GCDS. Tip off is at 3:30 at home - see you there!
