Country School Boys Win 2018 Lacrosse Invitational

New Canaan Country School Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse outscored four opponents with a total of 34-5 goals, winning the 2018 Greenwich Country Day School Lacrosse Invitational held in Greenwich, May 5.
NCCS first faced off against tournament host GCDS, securing a strong lead with three goals in the first two minutes of play. GCDS was able to slow the game down and work their offensive sets, which put three more goals on the board; however, it was ultimately no match for NCCS, who prevailed with a final score of 8-3.
NCCS went on to defeat a physically challenging Rectory School team from Pomfret, whose direct style of attack did not make a dent in New Canaan’s game. The final tally was an 8-0 shutout for the New Canaan Country School Cougars.
Following this second victory, NCCS went on to play a young Foote School team who had travelled down from New Haven.  The Foote squad possessed several strong players who were able to score twice in quick succession, forcing the Cougars to wake up and reassert a final 10-2 grip over their opponents.
The final game of the tournament saw a physical, yet tired, Upland Country Day School from Kennett Square, PA, work hard to keep pace with New Canaan’s offense and increasingly vigilant defense.  Although the opposition had few shots on goal, they forced the Cougars to play hard and earn their final 8-0 victory, securing the 2018 first place trophy.
“I am proud of our team’s performance and sportsmanship. It was a fun day,” said Varsity Coach and Upper School Teacher Charles Khuen.
