Cougars Cap Stellar Season With Thrilling Victory Against the Lukies

What a season it was for the JV Cougars! Today, the Cougars capped off a season to remember by defeating St. Luke's 36-30, finishing with an exceptional 6-1 record. However, it was the growth of the team and the fight the boys showed till the bitter end that made their coaches proud.

Going into the game, the Cougars were without shooting guard Jimmy Golden and their leading scorer, Sammy "Giggles" Wagner. To make things even more challenging, St. Luke's brought in a ringer, #10, who lit up the scoresheet with Steph Curry like range and precision from deep.

However, this was nothing the Cougs couldn't handle. The boys played one of their most impressive games to date. Jax Falkenstein got the scoring going early by hitting a three ball, and the buckets never stopped. Point Guard and "Gentleman Baller" Charlie Franz took the game by storm in the first half, scoring 11 points before leaving at halftime  to catch a plane.

The second half was a war of attrition. Each team played hard and played physical. Bodies hit the deck regularly, but everybody bounced back up, all for the love of the game. Speaking of, the Cougars were carried in the second half by Nico Rolfertwho played his heart out on both sides of the ball. On offense, he scored 13 second half points (including three deep balls, one a buzzer beater assisted by Aidan Grant), and on defense, he shadowed #10 until he was purple in the face, contesting every shot. With a minute left, the Cougs held only a four point lead, but the game was sealed after a vicious offensive rebound by, you guessed it, Nathan Roth, who dished the ball to Derrick Francis who laid the ball in and put the game to rest.

What a fun year. Basketball is a heck of a sport, especially when you get to play in games like these, and with teammates who ride with you every step of the way.

Go Cougs!
