An Overview of Horizons
at New Canaan Country School

Founded in 1964, Horizons at New Canaan Country School is the first in a nationwide network of programs that are successfully closing the opportunity gap experienced by under-resourced students. Horizons at NCCS builds deep and lasting relationships with the more than 400 Kindergarten through post-secondary students from Norwalk and Stamford it serves each year.

In addition to a six-week summer academic and enrichment program, we provide our Horizons students with year-round support, including tutoring and academic coaching, college advising, caregiver and family programming, and a Super Saturday program. All of our programs are tuition-free.

National Impact

After seeing the outstanding success of the Horizons program at New Canaan Country School, Horizons National was founded in 1995. The intention was to spread that model as widely as possible. Today our flagship program has been replicated at 71 sites in 20 states serving more than 7,100 nationally each year.

The New Canaan Country School Connection

Horizons has become an integral part of the New Canaan Country School community. For Horizons students, the school campus transforms into a home away from home during the enriching six-week summer program. Throughout the school year, numerous occasions bring together Country School and Horizons students and families, fostering a sense of unity within the community. The strong connection is further exemplified as both teachers and graduates actively participate in the Horizons program during the summer. Additionally, the collective spirit extends to school parents who generously contribute their time and talents, serving on the Horizons Board, assisting with special events and fundraising, and actively promoting Horizons within the broader community.
