A Foundation for
the Future

Bright, child-friendly classrooms in the Welles Building set the stage for children in Grades 1 through 4 to love learning. Opening inside to a central commons area and outside to play areas, connecting children to each other and to nature. The Perrine Commons comes alive with music and movement classes, bi-weekly lower school assemblies and special events. In addition, Welles, which was named for former Head of School Henry Welles,  includes a music room, a dedicated science room, and a library visited by Kindergarten through Grade 4 weekly, individually and in groups.

Our school assemblies are a cornerstone of the Lower School experience, fostering a strong sense of community among students, faculty and families. Held bi-weekly in the Perrine Commons, these gatherings bring the entire lower school together to celebrate achievements, share stories, and enjoy performances. The assembly is a time for students to connect, collaborate, and support one another, reinforcing the values of inclusivity and togetherness that define our school culture.

    Recess Sledding

When they built the new Athletics & Wellness Center, land movers were asked to protect the famous double dip sledding hill which has served students for over 100 years. They understood the assignment and even added a touch or two of their own to ensure that we would have a safe and fun slope for current and future generations to enjoy.
