Counseling students and families about next steps after Country School is an integral part of our educational process. The Secondary School Counseling Office works closely with families to ensure that each student finds a school that fits their individual strengths, needs, and interests, and also aligns with the family’s hopes and goals for their child.
The process begins in the late spring with an Introduction to Secondary School Counseling webinar that formally launches the process for the coming school year. We then meet individually with each family to discuss their thoughts and plans for secondary school. Together, we begin identifying a range of schools that are well-matched for each student. Throughout the year, we continue to support and guide students and families at each step of the way as they navigate the secondary school search and application process, through individual student and family meetings, group meetings, hosting secondary schools at NCCS, mock interviews, and guidance on applying for financial aid. Our approach is highly individualized and collaborative, and we work in close partnership with each student’s advisor and teachers.
Our graduates attend a range of schools after Country School: public and private, boarding and day, single-gender and coed. We have developed exceptionally strong relationships with all of our receiving schools, and they value the fact that Country School not only prepares our students superbly for their next schools, but that we also know our students well and, in turn, counsel them wisely and appropriately.
