Earning their third win of the season, the NCCS Boys' White team held off a tough Unquowa team who tried to equalize the game late with a 2-1 victory. In the first half, both teams struggled to gain quality possession with the short, narrow field. After manuevering the ball through a couple of defenders, Sam Herdeg managed to get a shot off on goal and it found the back of the net. Before the halftime horn, Unquowa was able to get off a solid left footed shot into the lower corner to tie the game up.
At halftime, the team discussed importance creating width and crossing opportunities. Hunter Harper, James Moody, Keane Zorub and Jon Gavidia each had roles on the wings to help us get the ball out into this area of the field and it helped significantly as the team controlled most of the possession. Struggling to find the net though, it wasn't until Max Behr came in across the 6 yard box to sky a ball over the goalie's head and into the net to take a 2-1 lead. While Unquowa didn't have the ball often, each time they created dangerous chances, but Thomas Blouin was up for each challenge throughout the game. He also had a fantastic back four in the second half that included Scooter Seiden, Will Gallagher, Rowan Stewart, Nico Benett, Tyler Jefferson and Finn DeGulis.
In the end, the Cougars held off the late surge for a 2-1 win, keeping their perfect 3-0, undefeated record. A lot has been accomplished this year, but we continue to take things one day at a time and look to improve in all areas. Great work yesterday and we look forward to our home opener next week!
