While it wasn't the result we wanted, it was still a heck of a game today at Bi-Cultural. On this hot fall afternoon, both offenses got off to slow starts. Each team started off with nothing to show for two drives a piece, but NCCS finally broke open the scoring when Topher Kern connected with Justin Stannard in the end zone for a touchdown. Then, to cap off the possession, the Cougars ran the Philly Special for a two point conversion to go up 8-0, ultimately taking an 8-6 lead into the half.
Come the second half, Bi-Cultural immediately took the lead with a quick touchdown, going up 14-8. However, the Cougars came back with a long touchdown drive capped off by a throw from Griff Stallmeyer to Matt Visokey on 4th and Goal. After a diving catch by Finn Dickinson to convert the extra point, the Cougars went back up 15-14.
On the ensuingpossession, NCCS had Bi-Cultural on the ropes with 4th and long. However, BCHA connected on a deep pass for the conversion, and two plays later, they had added a touchdown and a conversion to go up 22-15. With five minutes left and down a score, the Cougars needed to make some plays. The first big play came on fourth down, where Jack Reilly made a terrific over-the-shoulder catch for a first. Then, Justin Stannard hauled in a beautiful sideline deep ball with a diving grab, bringing the Cougars to the one yard line. Two plays later, Topher Kern caught a one yard score to bring the tally to 22-21 BCHA.
This set up the game deciding play. The Cougars decided to roll the dice and go for a game-winning two pointer. For the two, Griff Stallmeyer threw up a fade pass in the back of the endzone to Topher Kern, but the pass fell incomplete. A great lesson on the dangers of gambling everybody... sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way!
Thanks for coming to watch everybody! Next week, we take on Ridgefield Academy. That game will be played Tuesday on the NCCS fields at 3:30. See you then!
