Cougs Put Down the Clamps on St. Luke's, Move to 3-0
In what was a rough-and-tumble game today against the St. Luke's Storm, the NCCS JV Cougars prevailed 30-14, finishing their early season three game homestand with another victory.
Points were few and far between in the early stages of the game, as both teams played aggressive man-to-man defense and sloppy offense. Turnovers were the law of the land in this quarter, as both sides finished with just two points to show for it and a handful of turnovers each.
However, in the second quarter, the Cougars were able to string together a few decent offensive possessions while not sacrificing an ounce of defensive effort. PG Lucan Glennan and C Colin Buda popped in a couple of baskets each in the second quarter, and paired with a bucket from F Evan Frey and a free throw from F Will Bria, NCCS went into the break with a 13-5 advantage.
The game stayed consistent in the second half. The Cougars peppered in about a point a minute while continuing to smother the Lukies on D. By the final whistle, the Lukies were gassed and the Cougars were triumphant. Final score - Cougars 30, Storm 14.
Stat Corner -By Coach Reding's tally, the NCCS boys had nearly 30 steals as a team. Shoutout to C Colin Buda who had a team high of eight steals! -In addition, the the Cougs owned the glass. G/F Graeson Smith led the team with 10 boards, but C Chase Bell brought down seven, F Evan Frey snagged six, and F Townsend Leconey had five. -Let's also not forget G Dan Bowlin's free throw in the fourth quarter - with that point, each of our players has now scored on the season!
Great work today, guys! Next Tuesday we head to Ridgefield Academy for our first test on the road. 3:30 start... see you then!
